ANDROID
Same a Windows and Linux are making your PC working or Mac Os, it is the "master" program who make your Tablet PC or Smartphone working. Android is becoming more and more popular.
|
APP/APK
Applications, they are the "small" programs you can download or instal on your Tablet PC or Smartphone, they are made to work with your equipement. Android is very much for people who love technical equipement. Not all APP will work on all equipement, many questions need to be answered reading and following Web Android forums. |
Smartphone
A Smartphone of yesterday does not have anything to do with a Smartphone of today… A Smartphone is a phone giving you advanced functions. All Android phones are Smartphones as you can use for more and more functions you normaly only get on PC's and more recently on Tablet PC's and with time. And soon (couple of years), all functions found in today's PCs will be available to Smartphones. Today the most advanced Smartphones are also quite experimental. We can ask a lot from them but do not forget that the Era of Smartphone just begun. |
TF SDHC MEMORY CARD
One of the most important piece for your Android Smartphone… Is the memory card. TF is the old name given go the first cards by Sandisk. People keep using the name TF or TransFlash but actually the "real name" moved to MicroSD cards. Where SD stands for Standard Digital and HC for High Capacity. So a Micro SDHC card is a standard memory card with high capacity of reading and writting. The speed of "writting" is defined as Class, actually the speed class are 2, 4, 6 and 10. Equipement such as high quality cameras and videorecorders require high speed writting. Less expensive equipements can accept lower class memory. The higher is the memory class, the more expensive is your memory card, (also depends on memory capacity for sure!). But cheap memory cards are everything you want, but for sure they are FAKE. |
Full Capacity Check
Unfortunately some people found easy way to create fake memory. What is fake memory? You take a 2GB memory and you run a program on it and it will appear on your computer to be a 32GB but in fact your memory is still only a 2GB. What happen is that you think you are saving your data on a real memory because your computer can not see the cheating but the day your need to use your file, they are not here because they never got saved... Full capacity Check is a small program to discover if memory is fake or not. Here is the link to the software we use to discover fake memory: http://www.ctmagazin.de |
Fake Memory
Please read Full capacity check. Unfortunately small workshop specialise themself in "manufacturing" fake memory, not "second quality" as second quality does not exist, but FAKE. Totally fake = you think you have memory but in fact you get nothing. |
Tablet PC
One of the new way to experience computer capacity with day to day life. Video playing, chatting online, sending and receiving messages, surfing the web… Tablet PC are small portable PC's but also entertainment support… And day by day they are allowing us to do more and more in our daily life. |
PDA
Personal Digital Assistant, before Tablet PC's and Smartphones, people would use PDA's as electronic agenda, taking notes and some other functions to help keeping up to date with meetings and other things. PDA's belong to the past… |
3G
A technology used by phone company to provide high speed access to Internet via your phone or computer. It is using a very small modem or "dongle" or simply is integrated in your phone so you can get Internet connection anywhere they have 3G antennas. Because 3G antennas does not work with older mobile phone systems, all 3G phones need to be able to connect to "non 3G network" when no 3G signal is available. A 3G phone will then be more expensive because manufacturer need to put the 2 technologies together inside your phone. 3G is the 3rd Generation of Mobile technology. |
GSM
Global System for Mobile Communications: originally from Groupe Spécial Mobile) is the most popular standard for mobile telephone systems in the world.
|
HSPDA
High-Speed Downlink Packet Access (HSDPA) is an enhanced 3G (third generation) mobile telephony communications, it is a second generation of 3G, also called Turbo 3G |
EDGE
Enhanced Data rates for GSM Evolution, faster data/information access than GPRS… EDGE is the fastest non 3G technology for GSM phones. Phones using EDG for Internet access are good alternatives to expensive 3G contracts if people do not need to access Internet all the time. |
CAPACITIVE Screen
Capacitive screen only need you to touch the screen (not press) to send a command to your phone, like opening or closing an application. Some capacitive screens are also able to do "Multitouch", Multitouch is zooming inside a picture for example using 2 fingers. But not all Capacitive screen can do that because this function is under licence of Microsoft and Apple. It means that people creating applications using this function need to pay Microsoft or Apple... So you will not find this function existing with every single applications or Smartphone with Capacitive screen. |
RESISTIVE Screen
Resistive screens are the first generation of "touch screen", to send a command to your phone, like opening or closing an application or marking a phone number, you need to press lightly the screen. The most recent resistive screens only need a very light pressure, nearly similar to Capacitive screen, but they can not give you the function of "multitouch". Multitouch is zooming inside a picture for example using 2 fingers. |
QVGA
The most popular display size for games stations, handheld equipement such small tablet pc's, GPS and mobile phones. It is the 1/4 of the size of the old first generation PC screens. The Q stands for Quarter of VGA. VGA was the name of the card used in the 1st generation of PC's. The card was able to give a picture of 640X480 pixels. |
HVGA
Half of the VGA screen definition. VGA was the name of the first Grafic cards to make PC's monitors to work. The card was able to produce a picture of 640X480 pixels. |
ROM/RAM
ROM = Read Only Memory is a memory used by your computer at start up. It is used for most vital instructions your computer will always need, therefore is "READ ONLY MEMORY".
RAM = Random Access Memory also know as "live memory", your computer is going to get the programs you ask him to run into the "hard disk" or into some "card memory" and will put them "next to him" so he can use them when he needs that but this memory, stored data can be accessed in any order. This way the processor can run your programs faster. The best is when your computer "clean up" the memory after you use it... Put back the information you don't need anymore into some "slow memory" and continue to use your RAM for programs you realy need. This is how it should be but it is not always working like this... Still it is a fast memory for your processor. The more RAM you have normaly the faster your processor can work or the more program it can run at the same time. |
CPU
Central Processin Unit. All the informations are getting to the main "chip" inside your device and this "chip" will execute all the commands it is receiving. The fasterst is normaly the best, but speed is not the only factor who makes a CPU to be the best choice. Many other factors are important. Still for Smartphone, fasterst is best, but not always compatible with all existing applications, because each processor (CPU) only understand programs written for them. |
WIFI
Wi-Fi is a trademark, not a technical word, but it means that your equipement is capable of connecting another equipement or Internet without wire connection. |
CDMA/WCDMA/EVDO
This abreviations are extremely technical.... and to be understood fully need to look other words. So in short, is a technology who allows your phone to send more than 1 kind of signal. You can speak, also send and receive internet informations or downloading something from the web but faster than with 2G and 2.5G. This technology belongs to the 3rd Generation of Mobile phone, phones using CDMA or WCDMA or EVDO are called 3G phones. |
A-GPS
Assisted-GPS. GPS using satelites are not able to work under tunnels and any place where they can not "see" the signals received from satelites. But now, the antenas used to send the radio signals of your phones are used as "points of localisation" and your Assisted GPS is using this points to find where your device is. But, not every place can receive this radio signals, so you can only use AGPS where you are able to get your mobile phone to work. |
GPS
Global Positioning System. Satelites pointing toward the surface of the Hearth are "sending" us a signal who is used by a small electronic device to calculate the position of the device. To be able to calculate it's position, a GPS device needs to receive at list 3 signals from 3 different satelites. |
GPRS
General packet radio service, is the volume of information (data) that a phone equiped with this technology can send and receive by seconds, it goes between 56kilobits to up to 114kilobits per second. GPRS is the technology who came before EDGE, EDGE can send and receive more and is less than 3G. EDGE and GPRS are 2G and 1/2.... Second Generation and 1/2. |
MP3
A way to "compress" your audio file so they are very little and so do not use a lot of your memory. MP3 files are audio files. |
MP4
MP4 files can be Audio or Video files compressed in such way so they do not use to much space on a disk. They are comonly used on Internet so they can be downloaded faster and played easily on comon electronic devices. |
WVGA
Wide VGA display resolution 800X480 A higher display resolution means that displayed content appears sharper and smaller (depending on the physical size of the display). WVGA needs to compare to first generation screens from PC's. WVGA is a better display compared to this first generations. |
UMTS
One of technology used for 3G phones. A Universal Standard for Mobile phones, it means Universal Mobile Telecomunication System. Because of speed of access it is considered to be 4G, the technology who is going to be used in the future. Because all phone manufacturers and mobile phone service provider need to agree on the way they are going to produce your phone and give you services so you can use your phone all over the world. This is why standards are created and UMTS is one of them. |
Multitouch function
Multitouch is zooming inside a picture for example using 2 fingers. But not all Capacitive screen can do that because this function is under licence of Microsoft and Apple. It means that people creating applications using this function need to pay Microsoft or Apple... So you will not find this function existing with every single applications or Smartphone with Capacitive screen. |
